Caveman: Google Artist of the Week

NYC five-piece band Caveman’s sharp songwriting mixes hazy folk melodies with indie rock propulsion. The group’s four-part harmonies put them in good company with contemporary bands like Fleet Foxes or Vetiver, as well as the classic acts they reference, such as CSN&Y. Frontman Matthew Iwanusa’s singing is plaintive, his lyrics effectively spare, and the auxiliary drumming he adds to live shows is reflected in the album’s subtly moving rhythms. But Caveman’s sound revolves around all five of its members, from the rhythm section on up to Sam Hopkins’ versatile keyboards and Jimmy Carbonetti’s refined guitar work. Expect to hear a lot more of Caveman’s intricate tunes in the near future. – Eric Gandy
